This week I’m very excited to show off my Happiness is Hibiscus Chunky Cross Stitch Project Bag. It's just been published in
this month's Homespun!
Happiness is Hibiscus is a stylish yet roomy shoulder bag
designed for toting your craft projects around town. It has two side pockets, a zipper
with a cute zip pull and comfortable shoulder straps, and it’s made entirely from
hand stitch.
That’s right…entirely from hand stitch!
It’s sewn in Drops Karisma, a heavenly 100% wool dyed
in 42 divine shades. The Karisma palette lends the bag a rustic, vintage chic and a durable
finish.
I used shades Lavender (74), Light Old Pink (40) and Light Beige (71) but
you can mix and match any of the 42 colours to suit your personality.
It’s large enough to store your knitting,
quilting or sewing project and the handy side pockets are great for needles,
scissors or pens to mark off your progress.
Happiness is Hibiscus can be hand-washed, and a quick spritz
with a waterproofing spray will keep your WIPs safe and dry whatever the
weather!
Maybe you didn't believe me earlier but it really is
entirely hand sewn and it’s an ideal project for a confident beginner to tackle!
Almost all of the
stitches are a cross stitch variation, first half cross stitches are worked in
one direction and then needlepoint tapestry stitches in the other.
The photo below shows the back of the stitching. As you can see
the way the stitches are worked creates a lining so the bag looks as
beautiful inside as it does out.
Overcast stitch is also used. It’s a super easy stitch to
complete and full instructions are included in the tutorial printed in January's Homespun.
By the end of this project you’ll be
able to do these stitches in the dark!
The majority of the stitching is completed in one colour so
it is the perfect project to sew during a Netflix marathon. Whilst I was
sewing this I devoured Orange Is The New Black and Girl Boss.
I’ve just
found all 10 series of Friends on there so if you’re like me and looking
for a project to stitch along with, this could be it.
